Jimmy Butler was asked what the team’s focus was prior to its inter-squad
scrimmage Friday night at Target Center, just five days ahead of its regular
season finale at San Antonio.

He didn’t hesitate with his answer.
他不假思索地回應。
“Defense,” he said. “Transition. Making sure we’re impacting the ball, ball
pressure, weak side, all of the stuff that comes with defense, we need to lock
in on that more than anything.”
「防守。」他回答。「攻守轉換間，確保我們有對持球者壓迫，以及弱邊協防。所有事
情都與防守有關，我們必須放更多專注力在上面。」
Butler suggested it’ll be a while before that completely sets in. It’s not
going to be easy, he said. After all, this is a Wolves team that was in the
bottom five in defensive efficiency last season.

“Guys have got to want to do it,” Butler said. “They’ve got to get pissed
off when they get scored on or when weak-side (help) isn’t there when they’re
supposed to be. I think it’s going to take a little bit to click in, but
hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Some of Minnesota’s younger players suggested the Wolves were ahead of where
they’d been in the past defensively during training camp, but a 142-110 loss
to Golden State in Minnesota’s preseason finale in China punched a few holes
in that theory.

There’s been a lot of talk about Minnesota’s offense heading into this
season. The Wolves figure to have four or five scorers on the court at a time
this season. Points could be plentiful. But that won’t matter if Minnesota can
’t get a stop.

“Scoring is not going to be our problem, it’s not,” Butler said. “We can’t
sit here and try to score opposing teams, because as well as we can put the
ball in the basket, there are teams that can put the ball in the basket much
better than we can.”
「把球放進籃框不會是問題，絕對不是。」Butler 說道。「我們不能只留意進攻，因為

“I’m actually glad it happened,” Butler said of the blowout loss. “As well
as we played the first game (against Golden State) and guarded and moved the
ball, it didn’t happen the second game, and you see how things can get out of
hand very, very quickly. You learn from it, you don’t want it to happen again.
That’s embarrassing, obviously. But we studied that and we know what we have
to do.”
