jjwang 那一段剛剛 PTT 連不上的時候隨手翻了一下他應該是台灣人，或者至少是旅外台灣人，因為他一直強調「台灣隊」 XD （為了版面閱讀方便，譯文放上面，原文放底下） ====================================================================== 與被定位為「苦工型」投手的小王相較，曹跟郭是所謂的「天才型」投手，在國中時代，小王一直是在郭的陰影之下。當他們升上高中，郭跟曹成為當時高中棒壇的雙巨投，並分別帶領他們的學校拿下1997與1998年的勝利。曹甚至在他17歲還是個高中生時就入選了台灣國家隊（官方名稱叫中華台北），接著Rockies 用創紀錄的簽約金簽下了他，而他則持續主宰新人聯盟、1A跟2A。曹無異議地被選為洛磯系統中的最佳潛力新秀，同時也是整個小聯盟top 10 的潛力新秀。傷痛阻礙了他前進大聯盟的時程表，但他還是很快地被叫上大聯盟，並在初登板就拿下他的大聯盟生涯首勝。因為他的天賦，很快地他就被任命為洛磯的守護神，當他又被檢查出肩關節唇受傷的時候真的就像是個大災難。因為他的傷病史，洛磯不願意再將他保留在40人名單內而讓他成為自由球員，球團打的主意是沒有人會對曹有興趣，所以他們可以用便宜點的價錢再把他簽回來。然而，曹奇蹟似地在非季賽期間神速復原（個人意見：我覺得曹有點太過於仰賴他的天份，而並沒能對所有的事情努力付出，包括傷後復健），突然有七隻球隊爭著要簽下他（坦白說我還真驚訝還有這麼多球探記得他）。因為郭跟曹長期以來就是球場上的對手、球場下的好友，道奇撿到這個便宜，最後拿到了小曹的合約。曹甚至是第一個在大聯盟擊出安打的台灣球員，即使道奇陳金鋒的大聯盟處女秀比他還早二年。至於郭呢，1998年亞洲青棒錦標賽冠軍戰，在日本甲子園球場，當時高二的郭代表台灣出賽，對決日本隊高三主投松?大輔，那是一場1:2的低比分比賽，雙方的打者都被這二個投手完全壓制住了。郭甚至比松?還多了幾次三振（二個人的三振數都達到二位數字），但是因為一個失誤讓台灣隊終場以1:2輸球。郭跟曹過去總是不費吹灰之力就能「丟」（如果不能叫「投」的話）出100麥以上的球速，然而可能他們的校隊跟國家隊太過倚重他們，傷痛總是經常困擾著他們。另一方面，小王在青棒時期沒投過那麼多所謂的「關鍵比賽」，加上他埋頭苦幹的人格特質，今天的小王看起來健康也可靠的多。然而，我還是傾向把曹當成台灣投手的代表形象—全因他的天賦異稟。如果他能真的認真看待自己的職業並更加努力，他將會是一顆珍珠，甚或鑽石，那道奇可就撈到大寶了。 Tsao, Hong-Chih Kuo are of the type of "genius" compared to another Taiwanese pitcher Chien-Ming Wang who is fairly defined as a hardworking horse. Wang had been under Kuo's shadow throughout his middle school. Going up to high school, Kuo and Tsao were the biggest two and each led his school to get the trophy, in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Tsao was even selected to Taiwanese National Team (official name to be Chinese Taipei) when he was still a high school studet at the age of 17. He received then a record-high signing bonus from the Rockies along with the contract, and kept dominating in Rookie, A, and AA Leagues. Tsao was unanimouly picked as the top prospect in the Rockies system and top 10 among all Minor League teams. The injury did bother his schedule to the Major, but he was still quickly called up and earned his first MLB win on his debut. With his talent, soon he was named the closer of the Rockies. It was very likely a total meltdown when he was examined another injury on labrum. Based on the history Rockies did not want to keep him in the 40-man roster and made him an FA. The authority thought that no one would show interest in Tsao and they could re-sign him at a cheap price. However, miraculously Tsao got recovered quickly during the off-season (personal opinion: I think Tsao used to overuse his talent and did not work hard on everything, including the injury recovery) and it turned to be a 7-MLB-team competition for signing him. (Frankly I was so amazed that so many scouts still remembered him!!) The Dodgers indeed took the benefit that Kuo and Tsao are long-term rivalries on the field and close friends outside the game and got Tsao's singnature. Tsao is even the first Taiwanese to belt a hit in the MLB, although Chin-Feng Chen of the Dodgers got his debut in the MLB 2 years ahead of him. As for Kuo, when he was a junior in 1998 he represented the Taiwanese team and pitched against then senior Daisuke Matsuzaka of the team Japanese on the championship game of Asian Youth Baseball Tournament at Koshien Stadium, Japan. It was a 1-2 game while the hitters of both team were all confused by the pitches. Kuo was performing even better than Matsuzaka with a couple more strikeout (both got double digit K's though), but an error cost the Taiwanese team for that 1-2 loss. Kuo and Tsao used to "throw" (if not considered as "pitch") over 100 miles per hour without sweat. However maybe their school teams and the national team relied on them too much, injuries frequently came to them. Chien-Ming Wang, on the other hand, did not pitch a lot for so-called "key games", and with his work-hard-hourse personality now he looks more healthy and more promising. However, I still prefer Tsao to be the icon of the Taiwanese pitcher--all because of his talent.
